Hello Ladies & Gents!
I hope you are all doing well out there.
This Monday kicks off the U.S. Open here in NYC and I figured what better way to get into the tennis mood than to tell you all about the recent pre-U.S. Open match I attended a few days ago. Okay, actually ATTENDING the U.S. Open would be the better way… but this is all I have for now :).
This past Wednesday, on August 23rd, I attended the Aktiv Against Cancer Pro-AM tennis match at the Vanderbilt Tennis Club in Grand Central Station. Let me start by saying that I have lived in NY my whole life, and work in NYC yet I had no idea this tennis club existed inside one of the busiest stations in the city. What a well hidden secret!
For those of you who are unfamiliar with Aktiv Against Cancer, it is a Norwegian based foundation that has successfully helped to create 15 physical activity centers inside of Cancer hospitals all over Norway. As of 2014, they now have a U.S. presence here in NYC. Through my 9-5, I have the pleasure of working with this organization and its mission.
In short, let me tell you why a physical activity center is highly beneficial when it comes to Oncology. Physical activity can be of great use in patients who are being treated for their cancer, prevention and post-care. Studies show that exercise, when dosed and administered appropriately, decreases symptoms associated with cancers such as nausea, fatigue, lack of sleep and so on. It also builds their strength back up and energy. These are just a few of its benefits.
Now back to this pre-U.S. open event, who was in attendance? At this event, hosted by athlete Tina Cervasio, tennis professional James Blake and SNY sportscaster Michelle Yu went toe to toe with the Flywheel Sports CEO Sarah Robb O’Hagan and a gentleman who is a talented regular at the Vanderbilt Tennis Club (my apologies for not catching his name) in a doubles match that was nothing short of entertaining. I even almost caught a ball to the face and camera twice! Yes, I was that close to the court. I was practically straddling the outer lines on the court, but the brush with danger was invigorating…but I digress.
The food was catered by The Mercer Kitchen and was SO STINKING DELICIOUS! I especially loved the bacon wrapped mushrooms and the crab toast. It was so good that I did not even snag a picture, shame on me.
The food, the match, the people, it was an all around great time and perfect for a mid-week after-work event.
My look for the night is brought to you my beloveds: H&M and Zara. This culotte jumpsuit was on sale at H&M for $20 but you can get a similar look HERE, HERE, and HERE. Unfortunately my exact jumpsuit is sold out. H&M is famous for making many pieces from one fabric design so I am sure you can still snag this print if you search hard enough. What I love about this white blazer is that it is subtly cropped with long enough sleeves and without a lapel. You can a blazer similar to this Zara one many places and HERE is one that is similar. This linked ASOS one also is cropped and without a lapel.

This event got me in the mindset for the US open which is from August 22nd to September 10th. Now that I know a thing or two about tennis now, I am ready for the main events! It’s time to hunt down some U.S. Open tickets.
Who is going to the US open this year?
Until next time!
With Love,
CoCo
