Have you ever seen a cute accessory but was disappointed that it is not the color that you want? Well I sure have! I have seen so many cute tassel earrings everywhere this season and the color I need seems to run out whenever I am ready to buy. So I figured, I can make them! Today I will show you how to make tassel earrings in under 1 hour so you can make ’em and rock ’em all in the same night.
For my pair, I used whatever I already had around the house. Feel free to customize it depending on what you have available. For example, I used colorful cotton craft string but you can use thick colorful thread or yarn if that is what you have.
What you will need:
- Colorful string (yarn, twine, embroidery thread, etc)
- hoop earrings
- scissors
- craft glue
Step 1:
Wrap your string around 3 fingers or a small rigid piece of cardboard. This will ensure that the tassels are all the same length. I wrapped my string around the cardboard piece 5 times but you wrap it around as many times as you need for your desired thickness.
Do this many times so you have enough tassels for both earrings. Doing them in different colors adds dimension so do not be afraid to mix!
Set each piece aside gently so they do not unravel.
Step 2:
Place the looped string on top of the earring hoop. Place it so that 1/2 of the loop is above the earring hoop wire and 1/2 is below. Then take the bottom half of the sting loop, bend it under the earring and up between the earring hoop and the top of the string loop. I know this direction may be complicated via text so see the image below.
Pull taut to secure the note.
Step 3:
Cut the bottom of the string loops to give the earrings a tassel look. Trim the earrings so the stings are even or to your desired shape. You can cut them straight for a blunt look or rounded to curve with the earring hoop.
Step 4:
Turn the earrings over and glue. Use a small amount of glue on the back of the knots to make sure that they do not unravel when you are rocking them. Let it dry for however long your particular glue takes to dry.
Voila! You now have new tassel earrings that were quick and easy to make! Make a pair in every color to go with all your summer looks.
