Hello lovely people!
Today I want to talk to you all about STATEMENT JACKETS. Fall is here and I am definitely sad to see my favorite season, summer, go. BUT I do love fall fashion and comfy boots so I think I can make it through.
One thing I noticed about myself in the past is that I would grab cute fall and winter clothes but it would constantly be hidden under a large jacket or coat when I am out and about frolicking with my posse. I know here in NY fall comes and hits fast and cold in what feels like an overnight change but we still want to walk the city streets, bar hop, stroll around the local botanical gardens, and a plethora of other outdoorsy events. Who wants to wear a cute outfit just to have it hidden under your usual grab-and-go jacket, not I!
So my solution to that was simple, statement jackets! What I love about this is if you layer it properly, you can create a bunch of outfit with just one piece. So instead of buttoning up your usual beige trench and tying the waist, you can keep it open with a cute chunky sweater and scarf to keep the cold out. And as the temperatures drop some more, you can get more creative with your layering pieces.
I love to try out the trends of the moment but also do not want to spend a lot of money on pieces that will not be worn in a year or 2. Knowing me, I would rock them anyway because I am like that, but it is good to have the option to hang up a piece after a year or 2 without feeling guilty about it. SO I have the solution to that in this post!

It has become clear that blazers are the “it” outwear piece this season, especially in that super chic and timeless checked/ plaid pattern. Check out THIS POST where I show you where to get this trend under $65!
But in this post, I want to highlight some edgier outwear pieces that I am obsessed with at the moment. I will show you my top 3 favorite fall jacket trends from some of our favorite designers, and show you a selection of designer-inspired pieces that are more budget friendly for some of us. I will also show you my favorite pieces to pair them ALL with to get the max amount of looks. These simple and interchangeable pieces, sometimes referred to as capsule pieces, will keep you warm and trendy all season long. And when the next trend hits, you can just pair them with it as well! Ok, are you ready?!
Biker/ Moto Jackets
Now this trend has been around for what seems like forever. Every season I sport my moto jackets and each year it comes back with a little twist. The 2 subtrends within this trend that I am highlighting today is the embroidered moto jackets (like the Alexander McQueen above) and the bright colored moto jackets (like the Fenty above). Yes yes, the embroidered trend was big last season but I anticipate it sticking around for a bit as I see it still popping up on the runways!
If you are like me, I do not have the luxury of shelling out the cash for these high end items every time a new trend rolls out (yet!) so I of course have some budget-friendly look a likes that I want to share with you! Just click the link embedded in the item descriptions to shop the looks!
Fringe Jackets
Now FRINGE is my new thang! I love fringe on the pants, fringe on the shoes, so why not fringe all over the jacket! Missoni and Gucci are great, but I found some equally fly pieces for fraction of their prices.
Faux Fur, with a pattern twist!
Faux fur is another trend that keeps popping up year after year. This year, I predict that we will see a lot of uniquely patterned fur pieces and I am here for it! What I love about this trend is that it can be worn with a sleeveless top or dress on the chilly fall nights and with a turtleneck or long sleeve top in the much colder winter months.
Ah Gucci and Shrimps! As lovely as that sounds, I would rather check out the pieces below! Especially the white and black one from forever 21! It may be in my closet in a week’s time.
Okay how do you guys like these pieces? Are you inspired yet? If not, don’t worry, I will have outfit examples of how to style and profile in these trends towards the end of this post.
Here are examples of some of the staple layering pieces I own or will own very soon that can be interchanged with each other and each jacket!
One of my favorite “basic” looks is a fitted turtle neck with figure hugging jeans. So I don’t have to tell you how chic a simple fitted black turtleneck + a high-waist black skinny pant + booties look! Now throw on a chunky statement earring OR necklace + your statement jacket and you will be ready to rip the concrete runways of NYC! This combination is flattering on everyone, I promise. It is slimming, elongates your leg (if your bootie has a bit of a heel or platform to it), and it goes with EVERYTHING jacket-wise. Don’t believe? Try it!
What also works well under statement jackets is a light-weight top under the heavier garment. Something like a silky cami with a chunky outerwear cardigan looks amazing. So does a thin tee shirt under a heavy leather or faux fur jacket. I like to have layering pieces in colors like white, cream, navy, black, gray and red so that they can be easily mixed, matched and interchanged.
Now here are the accessories to turn up these plain staples and complete the looks! These are some of my favorite accessory trends at the moment.
I wore these gorgeous earrings during the most recent New York Fashion Week. See how I styled them here!
These are just a few more of the MANY amazing statement jewelry pieces available to spice up any “basic” look or add an extra dose of umph to your already BOLD look.
