Hello Beautiful People!
I hope your month isn’t FLYING by like mine is! Is it me or has October come and is almost gone in what feels like a week? Anywho, lets get into this look!
As a Long Island gal that commutes into New York City Monday through Friday, it is common to have some after work dates, drinks or dinners closer to work than home. Since my commute is 1.5- 2 hours in each direction from my door to my job, it is not convenient to go home and change for Friday evening birthday celebrations or any other events. Sometimes you need to take your work look and transform it into an evening look that doesn’t scream “I just left my desk”. In this look I made that transition SO EASY. Sometimes all you have to do is adjust one or 2 simple items of clothing and you are good to go. In this look, it is as simple as keeping my blazer closed during day and opening it as I leave the building.
An alternative can be to have a full length top on and tie it for a cropped look. Or even simpler: roll up a spare top into your purse and changing at the end of the day. Make it an item that is light weight and does not crush easily. By saving space by not packing an additional outfit, it leaves room for a change of shoes if you choose to carry one.
My pants are from Zara and are surprisingly no longer on the website so I will link alternative at the bottom of this post. The blazer and shirt are years old from Forever21 so I will link similar options to those as well.
I also like to carry a few cosmetic items with me to freshen up at the end of a long day. It can be a burden carrying items to and from work with you, especially when you travel with a laptop and do not use a car. My work bag is often full or heavy so a full cosmetic purse with all the works is not an option for me most days.
My top 5 post-work freshening up items:
My choice lip color for the night. I usually carry my lipstick with me so this one is the easiest. It is likely already in my work bag.
Travel sized perfume. I usually have a small travel sized perfume of my favorite scent or my sample perfumes from Sephora. If you have a few scents that you like and do not want to invest in a small version or roll-on of each one, just get free samples from Sephora and carry them with you! Some other department stores, like Nordstorms, also give free samples. These take up almost no room in your cosmetic bag or purse.
Travel sized mouthwash. I have one very small travel sized mouthwash that I refill after each use. This is a very important item to pack if you will be in intimate settings and speaking with people up close. Don’t embarrass yourself, Pack it!
Press powder, foundation powder or bronzer: Sometimes a little shimmer and dimension on my face is all I need to freshe
n up my makeup look that I have been wearing all day so I pack my bronzer. Some people may prefer to pack a highlighter or shimmery eyeshadow instead. Just use a small, compact makeup item that will add a little color into your face. If you have oily skin or are very active at work, a powder is a good item to have. It will reduce the shine and make your makeup look like it was just applied instead of worn all day.
Freshening facial spray. Some people swear by Mac fix plus and carry the travel sized one in their purse to give their face some
moisture and a glow at the end of the day. I like to use Caudalie beauty elixer spray to freshen up my face! It will also set any powder or shadow you applied throughout the day. It is even effective on your face without makeup. I got my travel size from Sephora.
