It’s no secret that a shoe can take a look to from good to amazing. I enjoy shoes just like the next gal but I enjoy a great deal even more. And if I can combine both, it is amazing! In this post I will share my simple tips on how to score a statement shoe at discount prices. My new favorite pastime is to find shoes under $10!
So how do I find my $4 gladiator sandals, $5 on-trend heel and $20 leather winter boots? It’s simple once you know 2 main points: Know where to shop & Know when to shop.
These are just a few of my under $10 find
Know where to shop
- Always check the outlets! Outlet shopping is nothing new but it takes patience to sift through all of their inventory. Some of my personal favorites are the Nike outlet and the Lord & Taylor outlet. I cannot tell you the last time that I bought Nike running sneakers at regular price, it was probably high school over 10 years ago. Look out for the sales at the outlets to get 50% or more off of already clearance priced item. The Lord & Taylor outlet never dissapoints, ever. They usually have 50% off either half or the entire store on already discounted items. Here is where I love to find classic strappy sandal heels and funky flats for under $10, and sometimes under $4! If you do not know when a sale starts, call your favorite stores to ask, sign up for their emails and follow their social media account. Often times people who follow their social media or on the email lists get an early notification of sale so you can get there first before your size is picked over.
- The clearance rack is your friend. When I enter stores or an online shop, my first stop is the sale or clearance section! There are often shoes that are in season but are last year’s look, which is fine by me! As long as it looks good, it does not have to be the latest design.
- Look for the stores that are on their way out. I have had great luck with steep discounts in stores that are closing later that week. You have to be careful in these stores because you can easily loose your mind and buy much more than you need! I once went to a shoe store named Wild pair, similar to Steve Madden, that was going out of business the follow day so they had shoes for $2 each or less. I bought cute shoes in my size, your size, and every size! This is good for early holiday gift shopping. Get it out of the way at a much lower price than you would have spent.
Know when to shop
- Shop off-season. Buy shoes during the off season so you can get sales on top of sales. Stores need to get rid of some of their inventory to make room for this season’s fashion so you can snag that boot you have been drooling over the previous winter once spring and summer rolls around. The added bonus with this is when you open the shoes once the season rolls back around it is like getting a new shoe all over again, without spending the money again.
- Take advantage of holiday sales. Certain bank holidays, like Independence day and Memorial day, are known for their sales (see example below). Just about every retailer is having 50% off entire store, 70% off sale, or other steep deals. Combine off-season shopping with bank holiday 70% and you will find shoes for under $20!
- Take advantage of price adjustments. If you are like me and have that shoe size that seems to run out first, I suggest taking advantage of price adjustments. Find out when the sale is, buy your shoes, then get back the price difference in a week or 2 when the sale starts. Make sure that the vendor offers price adjustments or you may be stuck with the item.
These are known tips that works well for me. Let me know what is the best deal that you have had on heels? How about boots? Leave a comment and let me know where you found it!
