Hey there!
As you may have already noticed, we are approaching wedding season! Are you attending any this year? Whether you are now or at another time, I’m sure you will want to look great on the couple’s big day. Some people are able to whip something up with what’s in their closet and not spend a dime, but the other group of us love to use this time as an excuse to buy a new dress (or pant ensemble)!
I made it my mission to only buy items I can and will wear multiple ways, and wedding guest dresses are no exception. If you have been browsing the stores and websites lately, you will have noticed all the gorgeous dresses that hit this season. How do you choose which one(s) to buy? And where the heck will you wear this fancy outfit again? If you play around with what is already in your wardrobe, you may find some easy ways to casualize the look.
Last May I attended my cousin’s wedding in Jamaica and wore this lavender lace dress from Asos, that I loved! Before purchasing it, I had to justify the purchase and bring down the cost-per-wear. In this post I will show you 4 easy ways I remixed this dress to give me alternative looks.

Turn a dress into a skirt
For this first look, I simply tucked the top of the dress in at the waist to make it look like a skirt. I zip it all the way up, then tuck, that way it says on and doesn’t show everyone my business throughout the day.
Layer the dress with a blouse
This mint green ruffle top was from an H&M sale almost 2 years ago. I actually never wore this top before but I love to hold on to super cheap sale items for the right time. I know it may be some years before I wear it, but I always do! I now have a few other outfits in mind for it. The earring are from a small shop inside of the 42nd street station in NYC.
Brighten it up with a white jacket
This white denim jacket is super old from a Joe Fresh sale and is a bit snug. The small size gives it a cropped jacket look. The Pink flats above are recently purchased from Century 21 for $17. Pairing these inexpensive items with the wedding guest dress gave it a more casual, daytime feel without breaking the bank. You can also pair with any colorful slides or flat that you already own from last year and any cropped light jacket. Get creative!
Throw on a denim jacket + kicks to turn it way down
This denim jacket was “borrowed” aka taken from my grandmother who had it for years. Old school denim is the best denim! The baby pink reebok sneakers were $30 from the clearance section in Century 21. Do not forget to rummage through the sale bins at these department stores! There are some gems in there. It was great to remix this look with inexpensive items I already owned.
I shot these looks outside of Sézane clothing store in NYC that had a Floratorium art installment for a few weeks. It was perfect because it just SCREAMED Spring, even though the weather kept telling us otherwise.
Below is how I originally wore the dress as a wedding guest. The dress, shoes and bag are all from Asos. They are perfect for one stop shopping for events and trips.
Those are just 4 quick ways to remix this particular dress! I’m sure I can come up with more as I wear it more often. What look is your favorite? How would you remix your favorite wedding guest dress? Let me know int he comments below!
With love,
CoCo
