How to Style Bold Ruffles

The off the shoulder and the ruffle game has been on a whole new level this spring, and I definitely here for it! Anything off the shoulder or cold-shoulder has always been a popular trend for the spring and summer months and they are now hotter than ever. What I like about this look is that it flatters just about every body type, it adds a little sexy to an outfit while maintaining the playful vibe, and it is just really convenient to bare a little more skin when the temperatures start to climb. There is really no reason to not love this trend.

Ruffles have always been a good look and this year it has come back with a glow up and brought some friends! The different styles of ruffles, the variety of embellishments available, and the sheer convenience of them make them a top pick for me this spring. They are especially helpful with covering my tummy after one of my NYC foodie adventures.

Marry these two trends together and I am in love. If you throw on a top with as much movement as ruffles, you do not have to work too much harder to spice up your outfit; it speaks for itself.

 

How to style a bold ruffle?

 

A bold ruffle does not need a lot of prints or accessories to make a statement; it stands on its own very well. It is best to keep it simple when styling these to ensure that you are not drawing the eye to too many places at once, and taking the attention away from all that flare.

This soft pink cropped off-the-shoulder ruffle top (what a mouthful!) is the perfect top for me right now in NY as we transition from Spring to Summer. The off the shoulder action and the mid-drift is cooling now that the temps are comfortable without a jacket, yet the layers of ruffles are heavy enough to keep me warm as the temperatures may not be summer hot yet.

I prefer ruffle tops as opposed to dresses or other full-length pieces because it gives me the flexibility to wear this look many ways. If you want the dress or playsuit look, you can score a ruffle top with a matching bottom to complete the look (or a piece that comes very close to it). I like to only buying an item that I can automatically see myself wearing 3 different ways or to 3 different occasions. If you are spending your hard earned money, you might as well make sure you get the most out of every item! This is especially true for those pieces that are trendy for a season or two, and then fades out with all of last season’s fads.
